Directions and Transportation Tips

We are located at 47 Sweeney Road, Glen Spey, New York, in a quiet, remote country setting. Depending on your carrier, cell service is limited in this area.

If you are arriving by train or bus, Uber, Lift and taxis are extremely limited in this area. We recommend calling and reserving a taxi in advance of your arrival (i.e. call the day before) if you need to take one from a train or bus station to the center. You can find out more information here.

Registration and Reception

All guests are required to check in (onsite or offsite), even if fully paid. Check-in is available at the:

  • Reception Office: 3:00-6:00pm

  • Temple: 6:30-7:30pm

Please plan to arrive within these times. If you can’t, e-mail or call us with your estimated arrival time. We’re volunteer-run, so advanced notice helps us be ready for you.

Meals & Café Details

  • All meals are served in the Main Building: lunch at 1 pm and dinner at 6 pm. Meal times will be confirmed in our event schedule.

  • Onsite accommodations include a continental breakfast. Check the event schedule for breakfast times.

  • All meals are vegetarian.. Vegan and wheat-free options are available. 

We regret that we are unable to cater for other specific dietary requirements; however, please notify us if you suffer from a life threatening allergy. Please note that due to potential cross-contamination we cannot offer gluten-free meals or guarantee that any of our meals are free from allergens.

What to Bring (Seasonally)

We have 82 acres of woodlands and trails to explore that are open year-round. 

Summer, Fall, Spring

  • Layers of clothes for changing weather

  • Boots or sturdy shoes for nature walks

  • Flashlight for night

  • Rain gear as needed

Winter:

  • Winter coat, boots and gear

What to bring for Accommodations

  • Check your registration to see what type of accommodation you have.

  • Single, twin, shared, and deluxe rooms come with all linens and towels, so you don’t need to bring anything extra.

  • Dorms provide a bottom sheet and pillowcase. Please bring a sleeping bag and towel. Linen packs with flat sheet, blanket, and towel are available for $7, but are limited, so request in advance if you’d like one.

  • Camping

Temple Etiquette & Seating

We will have both cushions and chairs available in the Temple. Please only sit in the chairs and cushions and do not lie on the floor.

You may wish to bring a journal and pen to take notes in the sessions.

Meditation Room Etiquette: In case it is your first time visiting our World Peace Temple, here are some helpful tips to know before you arrive.

Other Important Information

  • Our Temple is home to a community of lay and ordained Buddhist practitioners. As part of our broader community guidelines, while on the property please refrain from:

    • Intoxicants such as alcohol, thc, 

    • Smoking or vaping (This is permitted just outside the lower parking lot gate.)

    • Meat (including chicken and fish)

    Guests who are in possession of or under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave.

    Quiet hours are between 10pm-8am. During these hours, please maintain a peaceful environment, and please keep noise (including talking) to a minimum. We ask that you use headphones for music or media at all times. Musical instruments are not allowed to be played onsite or in the woods.


  • Our trails are available for daily exercise. We ask guests not to do yoga or exercise in indoor public spaces (including the Temple).

  • Washer and dryers for guests are available; it is $1 per wash, $1 per dry and $0.50 for a laundry sheet (available for purchase at the Reception Office or in the Shop). If you are staying in the Barn or Main Building, coin-operated washers and dryers are available in the basement of the Main Building (only take quarters; you may wish to bring quarters with you, or change is available for cash only - no credit cards - in the Shop or Reception Office). For the Top House, cash is accepted.

  • Each accommodation building has free open wifi access for guests.
