Those who are interested in experiencing life in a spiritual community are welcome to join us for a volunteer visit. Stays are flexible, typically 1-2 weeks, with the possibility of extending. In exchange for 25 hours of weekly service, you'll receive dormitory accommodations, vegan/vegetarian meals and access to our spiritual program. You can enjoy meditation classes, retreat sessions and prayers, as you immerse yourself in community life alongside Kadampa Buddhist practitioners, including monks and nuns.
Volunteers can help with meal preparation and clean-up, general cleaning, accommodations preparation, yard and garden work, and other areas depending on your skillset. Especially during our retreats and special events, we have a need for volunteers with kitchen/restaurant backgrounds, especially vegetable chopping and food preparation.
To apply, please fill out a Volunteer Visitor Application and we'll get back to you.If you have any questions, please email volunteervisits@kadampanewyork.org.
Volunteer Visitor Program
Live & Work at the Temple
For Kadampa Buddhist practitioners with previous volunteer experience at a Kadampa center, KMC New York offers sponsored resident positions. These full-time volunteer roles provide room and board, access to the Temple's spiritual program, and a modest stipend in exchange for supporting the daily life and operation of the Temple.
Living and working at the Temple offers a unique opportunity to deepen your Dharma practice while working for Dharma. You'll help care for the Temple and support the many people who come here seeking solutions to the problems of daily life through Buddha's teachings. Whatever your area of responsibility, your work becomes part of creating the conditions for others to encounter Buddha's teachings.
To inquire about sponsored resident positions, please email deputy.admin@kadampanewyork.org.
"The space created here is one of the most welcoming and harmonious I've experienced! The work, the community, the nature, and the teachings were so inspiring and rewarding! I think regardless of what background you come from or what you believe in, you'll leave here with more peace of mind and tools to navigate through life in a more positive way!" — Nico
