Making a Meditation Habit

It’s easy to start a new practice and then abandon it for something else. Creating a meditation habit that lasts is an art. You can start the new year right by learning essential techniques for creating a joyful but disciplined meditation practice that will support and sustain you for a lifetime. We will look at the essentials of how to meditate and how to create a consistent, joyful routine. There will be plenty of time for questions and a discussion of how we can refine our practice going forward.

Meditation Workshop 

Establishing Our Intentions for the New Year

Saturday, January 22nd · 10am·1pm with Evelyn Williams

In this half-day course, we will get to fine-tune our intentions for the new year to create the positive change we’re looking for. When we align our intentions and actions with a clear sense of our potential, amazing accomplishments will arise. The power of intention can take us to wonderful experiences or terrible ones. Our intentions have the power to create our own enlightenment or our own problems. Through the teachings given in this workshop, we learn how to correctly set our motivation so that we live with purpose and meaning. Everyone welcome.

Take Control Of Your LIfe

Tuesdays · 7-8:30pm with Charlie Stuart

Our thoughts and attitudes create all of our experiences. If we want to take control of our life and find the happiness we long for, we must learn how to control our mind. Using meditation and Buddhist wisdom to train our mind, we can reduce negative thinking and learn to think in ways that produce a positive, peaceful outlook. We can respond to daily challenges in a more constructive fashion, improve our relationships and make our life truly meaningful.

Love without Pain

Our relationships with others – whether between couples, within a family, or even amongst friends and colleagues – can have a huge impact on our happiness. Through meditation we can find ways of relating to others that make them rewarding and harmonious, and we can break out of mental habit patterns that can sabotage them. Over this series, learn and practice simple meditations to make our relationships work.

Through her many years of practice and meditative experience, Evelyn has developed a special understanding of Kadampa Buddhism. With an insightful approach and peaceful heart, Evelyn shares Buddha’s teachings in a way that directly touches the hearts of listeners.

Charlie has been practicing Buddhism for many years and has been helping the Saratoga Springs classes and is now teaching the weekly Tuesday meditations. He is appreciated for his clear, light-hearted, and practical presentation of Buddhist teachings.

I’ve never been to a meditation class/workshop before.

I've never been to a meditation class before what should I expect?
Our meditation classes are very accessible. You do not need to bring any mats or wear any special clothing. We provide both cushions and chairs, and there is no physical exercise, yoga, or stretching involved.
How should I dress?
Feel free to come however you are comfortable. We ask people to remove shoes and hats when you enter the meditation room.
Do I need to bring anything?
Nothing in particular, but some people like to take notes so you may wish to bring a notepad and pen.
If I’m a complete beginner, should I attend this class?
Yes, our meditation workshops are perfect for everyone. This course, in particular is a great way to begin a meditation practice – no previous experience is necessary.
Do I need to be Buddhist to attend?
No, our meditation workshops are presented in a way that is accessible to everyone, and no religious obligation is required.
What are some benefits of attending meditation classes?
Through sincerely training in meditation on the teachings given in these classes you will attain spiritual realizations, which lead you to permanent liberation from all the sufferings of this life and countless future lives. There is no greater meaning than this. Even temporarily, whenever you experience problems, unpleasant feelings, depression or unhappiness you can solve these problems immediately by transforming your mind into peace through your meditation practice. The benefits of meditation are immeasurable.
