Kadampa Buddhism in NY
Kadampa Meditation Center New York strives to exemplify Buddhist practice through public service.
Visitor center
KMC-NY is a major visitor center for Sullivan County and is a member of the Sullivan County Visitors Association.
Besides the unique Buddhist Temple, World Peace Café, and Bookstore and gift shop, the center offers more than 80 acres of grounds, consisting of woodland, streams, large grassy areas and a small lake for visitors to enjoy.
Future plans include five themed woodland trails, picnic areas and facilities for children.
Group visits are welcome by arrangement seven days a week, as are personal visits. For more information, see visiting the center.
Facilities for educational visits to the center as well as on site visits by Teachers from the center are being prepared.
Support for the local community
The center plays an active part in the community and is proud of its support for local organizations.
Though exempt from property tax as a non-profit organization, the center makes an annual voluntary donation to support community projects such as road maintenance, schools etc.
The center also supports the community, for example, volunteering during the creation of a children’s playground in Lumberland.
Residents of the center also take responsibility for litter removal from a two-mile stretch of County Road 31.
