Nectar of Compassion – Traditional Nyungne Fasting & Purifcation Retreat
Friday, April 10 – Sunday, April 12
Nyungne is a traditional two-day fasting and purifcation retreat in conjunction with 1000-armed Avalokiteshvara, Buddha of Compassion. This beautiful practice is very powerful for purifying our negative karma of body, speech and mind pacifying strong delusions, and for developing great compassion.
The retreat starts on Friday evening with an Introductory Talk by Gen Samten. On Saturday and Sunday we begin at dawn by taking Mahayana precepts, promising with strong mindfulness to abstain from negative actions over the next 24 hours, for the beneft of all living beings. Troughout the day we engage in three sessions of prostrations together with melodious sung praises to Avalokiteshvara.
The retreat involves fasting, helping us to purify our body and mind and to improve our compassion by remembering through our hunger and thirst the suffering of countless living beings.
Engaging in this practice, we will receive Avalokiteshvara’s purifying nectar-like blessings to develop and improve the beautiful mind of great compassion – the heart of the Mahayana path. Everyone is welcome.
